The Fort Smith Stockyards, Fort Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 700 head on March 13, compared to 1,009 head last week and 465 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers were selling $3 to $8 higher. The feeder heifers under 400 pounds were selling $9 lower and those over 400 pounds were selling $5 to $7 higher. The slaughter cows were selling $2 to $3 higher. The slaughter bulls were selling $2 higher. The supply included 466 feeder calves, 141 was feeder yearlings, 41 was replacement cows, 45 was slaughter cows and seven was slaughter bulls. The supply consisted of 60% English breeds and English crosses, 25% was exotic breeds and exotic crosses, 15% was Brahman breeds and Brahman crosses and 0% was Holstein and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included 46% steers, 36% was heifers and 18% was bulls, with nearly 28% of the run weighing over 600 pounds.
